Patients with neuromas have typically relied on medication that treats the painful symptoms but fails to remedy the underlying problem. However, thanks to an advanced technique
offered by FootMed, patients can find permanent relief with a minimally invasive procedure.

What is a neuroma?

A neuroma is nerve swelling that results from either trauma or compression. This swollen nerve may burn or tingle or cramp the toes. When it occurs in the space between the second, third or fourth toes, the condition is called Morton’s neuroma. The most common neuromas occur between the third and fourth toes. Symptoms are typically worst just after walking or standing. Frequently developing on the ball of the foot or in the space between two toes, neuromas can be diagnosed and treated by FootMed’s director, Dr. Tenzer, here in the office.

A variety of treatment options.

Depending upon the location and severity of a neuroma, it may be treated with shoe changes, orthotics, cortisone injections or surgery. In the past, patients sometimes underwent neurectomy surgery, an invasive procedure with a long recovery period that included such common complications as loss of sensation and stump neuromas.
Here at FootMed, Dr. Tenzer is proud to offer the latest surgical solution for permanent relief from neuroma pain, known as minimally invasive nerve decompression surgery. Dr. Tenzer performs MIS nerve decompression surgery in the convenience of an outpatient hospital setting using the revolutionary KobyGard™ system, through which he makes an extremely small incision that will only require a stitch or two to close. Through this very tiny incision, Dr. Tenzer then releases the ligament that puts pressure on the nerve so that the nerve itself does not have to be removed. The KobyGard system gives Dr. Tenzer and his patients a more desirable alternative to other minimally invasive techniques since the KobyGard system eliminates the need for invasive endoscopic equipment.
